Earlybird express--vol.1(Aug.2000 - Mar. 2001)

5th Mar. 2001

Heavy snowfall since last night. We got heavy snow warning in this area. Bad visibility and been cold, please pay attention to drive.

Heavy snow fall creates some snow monsters.

Roads get narrower because of snow. When snow get removed like this, sometimes it bothers us to find cars, people get in the crossing. Just pay attention.

27th Feb.2001

Still it's sunny today. People get sunturn & sunburn on slopes.

Sun-alpina Aokiko slope (center), Sun-alpina Hakuba Sanosaka slope (right ), Sun-Alpina Kashimayari slope (left).
Photographed on 27th Feb. at the opposite side of lake Aoki.

Scenery of Japan North Alps from lake Aoki. Lake Aoki is now frozen.

26th Feb.2001

It has been cold again here in Hakuba after the raindrops the other day. But anyway it's sunny today, so I bet it's fantastic day for skiers and snowboarders on slopes now.

Grand prix course and Champion course of Hakuba Goryu.
Photographed 26th Feb.2001

Whole scenery of Hakuba Goryu & Hakuba 47. Hakuba 47 courses are located at the opposite side of ridge, so a little bit hard to see from here.

Whole Happo-one scenery. Do you see the Hakuba jump stadium at the lower left?

Hakuba Goryu Grand prix course. Approx. altitude is 1,300 - 1,676 meters. Usually available until the second half of May.

The slope coming down the forest at the lower left is Champion-expert. The max. angle is 35, usually grooming cars don't get in there, so it's fun for moglers.

22th Feb.2001

It rained last night. I wonder weather in this winter.......rain in February...... never have this for several years. Weather forcast says it will get colder again from tomorrow, so roads will be frozen. Please put a set of chains for your car in advance. Sometimes I see some people try to put on/off them just besides cars that are driven, terrible! If you got slipped on roads when some cars come to you then.............

14th Feb. 2001

Since a consective holidays in February was just over, I enjoyed one of hotspring nearby. Hum.....really could relax. Does this prove my getting older? You can check hotsprings in Hakuba clicking the link "Hot springs" just left side. We highly recommand "Obinata no yu", but it closes during winter because of tons of snow there. It will get opened soon before the Golden Week ( last April - first May).

8th Feb.2001

We are so sorry to have not uploaded our web pages for a long time. Snowfall in this season goes really crazy....and it has been cold so snow keeps staying on roof, I needed to climb roof to drop snow on ground. Of course, it needs a lifeline for me to rope myself. It really consumes physical strength to get rid of snow by hands on roof that is not flat, being roped.....so I guess I look like zombie while I do it..........

18th Jan.2001

Heavy snowfall again for several days. Now snow depth at upper slopes get 300cm, even at lower slopes, it get 150-170cm. Usually sloeps get less crowded from the second half of January through the first half of February and really good snow. Time for you all to hit slopes!

6th Jan. 2001

After heavy snowfall, everything got covered with snow here.....

Do you see which is road and which is rice field? It's hard to judge the border...... Just pay attention to drive.

Since lower slopes were not photographed good, I moved a bit, then clouds bothered me for upper slopes!!!!!!

29th November 2000.

Hakuba Goryu ski slope 29th Nov.2000. Since it snowed on 28th, finally snow stays at slopes. More snow needed for us to enjoy snow there!

24th November 2000

Lately we sometimes find a bit of snow stay at the upper ski slopes. Wish we could enjoy snow when more snow will get fallen there! Hmmm......snow!!!

10th November 2000

Red and yellow leaves are almost over while I have been working on computer to prepare our domain URL. It has been cloudy even to lower mountains nowadays in here, it may snow at the top of mountains, but who knows? Please have a set of tire chain for your car when you come here from now on until at the first half of May. Roads get frozen even when it does not snow.

26th October 2000.

The weather has changed periodically recently here. We can enjoy real beautiful scenery of leaves at mountains when we take a look on them keeping distance. Even at the bottom of mountains, leaves turn their color and getting falling on ground. Soon we will be busy clean them. Hmm....gotta buy sweet potatos ( to grill putting them in the leaves ).

18th October 2000.

We have raindrops after a long interval here in Hakuba. We guess there falled snow at the top of mountains though we cant see because of clouds. Anyway, lots of sufferings have happened here and there on this planet nowadays. TV progams said there was violence flooding in Swizerland and Northern Italy. Torino city seemed to get its life line lost with it. We pray no more people wont have hard time with that flooding and also do for the repose of their soul those who got died with that flooding.

10th October 2000.

Red and yellow leaves come down at mountains. Autumn gets on stage now in Hakuba. New soba also available.

7th October 2000.

We are in deep sadness to people who suffered from the Earthquakes have been occured around Tottori pref. Please pay attention not to catch a cold since it is getting colder and colder nowadays. We hope you can get back to usual life as before as soon as possible.

21th September 2000.

It goes real comfortable here in day time, but getting cold at night and early morning. I may have to have a table heater with us soon. Plants seem to get into dried at the top of ski slopes, guess soon red and yellow leaves will appear there. Red dragonflies here seem not to be scared of human beings, they break staying at our head or hands. When we try to catch them, we try to put them into hypnosis drawing our index finger in a circle to their eyes, I think they look really funny. I feel as if they speak like " Ohh.. Come on, don't be shy!, ohhh" ( I think what I really want to mean is different from " Come on, don't be shy" but hard to translate). I wonder why they don't try to escape from me then, maybe they enjoy the feeling they get in hypnosis. I never catch them, just enjoy the strategy with them.

18th September 2000.

We are in deep sadness to people in Miyake island where a volcano has kept exploding and to people in Nagoya area where flooding hit them. We hope you can get back to usual life as before as soon as possible.

4th September 2000.

After it got September, its getting colder and colder at night and in the morning. We need full sleaves shirts and sometimes even daytime, too. Perhaps this sounds a bit crazy for people in most part in Japan...... The dragonfly what we Japanese call Aki-akane or Aka-tonbo that tell us autmn has come haven't appeared many yet, usually they appear a lot at this time of the year here.

31 August 2000.

Summer vacation for school has over today. Have you already done your homework???
I climed the roof of our house to try to paint the roof after 3 years' absence. It looks not so hard from the ground, but once i climb there, its real tough to stay. I just did the work this afternoon, but feel tired and sore waist..... getting older....Well, only 3 lines got cleaned and washed up.... not painted yet....How long will this take to get done.......?
