| Autumn festival |
|
|
We have autumn festival here in our area Iida in
Hakuba. Iida in this page is an administrative division
in Hakuba, never means Iida city in south part of
Nagano prefecture. So please don't mix it. Thanks.

It seems that people in old days started this festival
to thank for the harvesting. We have leaders in each
and every group in our administrative division and
this year I am the leader of our group so I had to
march holiding a flag with a pole like in the pic
from our public hall to the shrine where the festival
is held. It is okay for us to march when no wind blows,
but once the window blows it's hard to keep holding
the pole in our hands because the pole is about 5-6
meters in length and we have to keep it vertically!!!!!
Also a bit hard to avoid electric or telephone wires
on the way.
This festival is held usually on the Sunday closest
to one of national holiday Autumnal Equinox Day.

A brushed up portable shrine
what we call "Mikoshi".

People got in the shrine carrying the
portable shrine. |

Children also got in pulling the float.

Girls dance a special one like a court
dance with music. |
|
| Grilled corn and cuttle fish etc were sold at
the shrine, so it smelled aromatic and people
enjoyed sacred sake and meeting old friends in
their school days. |
|
| I guess probably it would be nice if I could
drink alcohol. But I had to carry the flag with
a pole back. Wish I could drink at least a barrel
of beers! - webmaster |
