Hakube flowers

Hakuba flowers
As you know, we have 4 seasons here in Japan,
so we can enjoy many flowers in each season, but we can see
few in winter here in Hakuba because of tons of snow. So from
spring to autumn, we just enjoy brilliant color. Let's share
them together.

Zazensou
|
|
Since everything gets covered with snow whole winter
here in Hakuba, we can hardly find any brilliant color
then. But when snow starts melting, some flowers get
ready to be in bloom.
Zazensou (left) run a temperature by themselves
and melt snow to show up.
"Zazen" is a way for budhists to sit down. This plant
looks like that way, it named as "Zazensou"
( "Sou" means "plant" in this case.)

Nirinsou
|
|
Nirinsou is usually found in half shade, not so much
sunny places. Really small and lovely flower.

Fukujusou (Adonis)
|
|
|
|
Fukujusou (Adonis)
live in damp grounds. When snow gets melting, they
start being in bloom. I guess they prefer sunshine.
They said 30% in bloom when these pics got taken on
15th April 2001.

Katakuri ( dog tooth
violet )

|
|
|
Katakuri (dog tooth violet ) usually get in
bloom at the last half of April at this area. They are
bloom heading downwards like the left picture. The way
looks similar with cyclamen.

Mizu-bashou (Skunk cabbage)
|
|
Mizu-bashou (skunk cabbage) live in flocks at some
damp ground. Bloom in April at Himekawa natural park Hakuba,
in May at Togakushi natural park and Oku-susobana natural
park Kinasa and in June at Tsugaike natural park.
810,000 skunk cabbages get in bloom in Oku-susobana natural
park Kinasa village - 1 hour by car from here - it's awesome.
