| 2001 International
MTB cup in Hakuba |
|
There was an International Mountainbike race
here in Hakauba 30/June (for Downhill ) and
1/July (for Cross country) 2001. We had 4 racers
from Guam to stay in our inn for it. That was
good chance for me to watch the race, so I decided
to come there to do. Here some pictures I took
there, then. I hope you all enjoy them. - Webmaster.

1/July /2001 - Competition day.
It was very sunny and the temperture was getting
up. Additional, they were scheduled to start
at 1:40 p.m. -- probably the hottest time
in a day. It's not so hot here in Hakuba even
in midsummer but I guess it was kind of hard
term for racers. It had kept raining on 29
and 30th June 2001, so the course was really
slippery and some of the course got closed
because it was too slippery to hold a race.

Racers got in the start line after registration.
All the more a tense atmosphere increased
there.

|
Start! -- about 120 racers started to try
the steep course of 5km round. It was just
a moment.
They had to have totally 5 rounds.

Anyway, the course is all in a ski piste, so
it's never easy -- lots of up and down. Racers
have to ride uphills almost getting hard to
breath and ride downhills avoiding muddy spots.
Of course faster than others if one tries to
win. Sometiems racers striked each other on
the way.

If I remember right, the record for the winner
was 1 hour 54 mins around.....Most racers seemed
to get muddy.
