An important cultural asset the Nakamura's house
An old straw roof house

An old styled japanese traditional house with a straw-thatched roof being at Aogu area in Miasa village east neighbor of Hakuba.
Some persons of the Nakamura family had been village headmen or public servants in feudal Japan since 17th century and the present head of the family is 13th. In Nagano pref, the private house is the oldest one of them with clear chronicles with the age they were built up. It has 25.2meters in width, 10.8meters in depth and 278meters of squares. The scale was prominent at that time. The house and the ground was alienated to Miasa village being restored to its original state and was specified as an important cultural assets of Japan at 3th Dec. 1997.
Since this pic was taken in midwinter, everything was covered with snow as you see.

Space for saddles at the inner right of entrance.

A stable at the inner right of the entrance. It's pretty large one, I wonder how many horses were kept.

Kitchen at the inner left of the entrance.

Pillars and joists are connected each other by rope that had gotten to be tightened by soot from the kitchen.

Space called "madoshita" that means somethig like "under the window". Seems to have been a space for reading and writing. It had seemed to be an earth floor. You can find light at the left, there is the entrance.

Bed room called "kozasihiki".

Space called "yurika" to classify rooms under for samurai and for common people. Common people even inhabitants of this house were not permitted to enter left side of this space without the time they treated guests.

Entrance called "shikidai" for samurai. As there was a strict status system at that time, people had to enter inside of the house through the exclusive entrance.

Room called "okuzashiki". Only guests of samurai could enter this room.

Numbers of household effects and collections at the warehouse.
